This commemorative session celebrates the life and legacy of József (Joe) Tóth, one of the most influential hydrogeologists of our time. His pioneering concept of regional groundwater flow systems fundamentally changed our understanding of groundwater flow and its role in geological and environmental processes, and continues to shape hydrogeological research worldwide.
Beyond his outstanding scientific achievements, Joe inspired generations of researchers, students, and professionals through his teaching, mentorship, generosity, and enthusiasm for science.
The session welcomes contributions from former students, colleagues, collaborators, and friends, as well as from researchers whose work and scientific thinking have been influenced by his ideas. Contributions may include personal memories and reflections, shared scientific or field experiences, and perspectives on the impact and continuing development of his concepts.
The aim of the session is to create a collective tribute reflecting both Joe Tóth’s extraordinary scientific legacy and the profound personal influence he had on the international hydrogeological community.
